Expression Pattern of Interferon-γ in Human Leukemic T Cell Lines Following Treatment with Phytoheamagglutinin, phorbol myristate acetate and Lipopolysaccharide

Background: As a T helper type 1 (Th1) derived cytokine, Interferon gamma (IFN-γ) is an important regulator of inflammatory immune responses. Furthermore, IFN-γ plays an essential role in defense against tumors and intracellular pathogens. This study was designed to assess the pattern of IFN-γ production in human leukemic (Jurkat and Molt-4) T cell lines in vitro. Methods: Ju...

Enucleation and reconstruction of interferon-producing cells.

Enucleation of L cells leads to loss of the capacity to produce interferon, showing that the cell nucleus is essential for interferon formation. However, when the cells were enucleated while interferon formation. However, when the cells were enucleated while interferon formation was proceeding, the cytoplasts were capable of continuing to synthesize interferon by a process shown to be protein s...

Species specificity of interferon action: maintenance and establishment of the antiviral state in the presence of a heterospecific nucleus.

The expression of the interferon-induced antiviral state was studied in heterokaryons and cytoplasmic hybrids (cybrids). An autoradiographic assay for the antiviral state, in which the percentage of cells containing vaccinia viral DNA factories was determined, was used. The expression of the antiviral state was dominant in homokaryons and heterokaryons formed by fusion of interferon-treated cel...

The Effect of Beta Interferon on Dendritic Cells and Cytokine Synthesis by CD4+ T Cells

Background: Dendritic cells (DC) are a key regulator of the immune response, and interferon- beta (IFN-β) is considered an immunomodulatory molecule for DC. Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the ability of IFN-β treated DC to induce cytokine secretion by CD4+ T cells. Methods: Dendritic cells were generated from blood monocytes with granulocyte-monocyte colony-stimulating fac...

Interleukin-8 expressed in the granulocytes of the eye in a patient with Behçet's disease complicated by lens-induced endophthalmitis.

BACKGROUND Interleukin-8 (IL-8) is believed to be involved in the progression of intraocular inflammation. We sought the source of IL-8 in the enucleated eye of the present patient. CASE A 40-year-old Japanese man was diagnosed as having Behçet's disease. His vision deteriorated due to persistent uveitis and secondary glaucoma. His left eye had lens-induced endophthalmitis. OBSERVATIONS The...
